Following on from the META tags article, a majority of web searches are currently served up by Google. Google powers a number of secondary search engines, as well as it's own search site at Google.com, Google.co.uk and it's many regional variants.
Google doesn't place a particularly high relevance on META tags but does place higher importance on a number of other factors such as keyword density and reverse linking. The most important factor that Google considers when indexing a web page is the actual content of the page. By doing this, Google can avoid keyword spamming and irrelevant content and provide more targeted searches to it's users.
You should ensure that you have relevant information containing the search terms that you are targeting and that these terms are prevalent in the page content. Try to put different topics of content on separate pages so that you don't dilute any keywords and key phrases.

If you go to Google.co.uk and search the whole web for 'Italian food importer' and you'll see Vallebona Sardinian Gourmet www.vallebona.co.uk at number 3 out of 21,500 records.
If you search for 'comedy pub', you will see www.thecomedy.co.uk at number 3 of 195,000 records and this site has been on the first page of google for over a year!
