It's a fairly well known fact that Google will rank your website higher if you have other sites linking to yours. The reason for this is that, if other sites link to you then your content is deemed worthy of reading and so Google rewards this by passing on some of the linking site's Page Rank (we will cover Page Rank later in the article).
There are three major factors in using this strategy that most are unaware of, which is :-
Page Rank is a score out of ten for how important Google thinks your web page is. To see this score, you will need to download and install the Google Toolbar available from the Google website.
Once installed in your browser, not only can you search Google directly from your browser and other goodies, you can view the Page Rank of the sites that you visit and this is represented on the Google toolbar as a single green bar. The longer the bar the higher your page rank.
Our website entry page has a Page Rank of 5/10 which is pretty good and all our 2nd level internal pages have a Page Rank of 4/10 which is still pretty good. That means when we link to a clients site from ours, they share some of our Page Rank helping them to rank higher on Google.
Generally speaking, the higher the page rank of a site linking to your site, the better higher your page rank will be and thus you should be listed higher in Google.
